K.I.S.S. Your Church AV Setup Keep It Simple, Saints!

Updated: Jun 23

In the world of church media ministry, it’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking bigger always means better. You’ve seen the massive LED walls, broadcast-level cameras, and mixing consoles with more buttons than a spaceship. But here’s the truth: excellence doesn’t require complexity. And when you're relying on volunteers, simplicity isn’t just helpful—it’s holy.

That’s why we live by the mantra: K.I.S.S. – Keep It Simple Saints.

Simple Doesn’t Mean Low Quality

Let’s be clear—“simple” doesn’t mean “low quality.” It means intentional design. It means building an audio-visual system that your volunteers can understand and operate confidently, without needing an engineering degree or spending all Saturday watching YouTube tutorials. A clean, straightforward setup can still deliver powerful sound, clear video, and an engaging worship experience—without anyone sweating bullets in the tech booth. (Or at least minimum bullets sweated)

Complexity Kills Momentum

Every extra wire, button, or software layer introduces a new point of failure—or frustration. If your team spends more time troubleshooting than worshiping, your AV system is doing more harm than good. Volunteers should feel empowered, not overwhelmed.

Think of it like this: it’s better to have a solid livestream from an iPhone that works every Sunday than a thousand-dollar camera that only your one “tech guy” knows how to operate. When he’s out of town, you’re out of luck.

Despise Not Small Beginnings

We get it—you want your church’s production to look and sound like the big-name ministries. But remember: every great ministry started somewhere, and there’s no shame in starting small and growing smart. Use what you have. Build on what you know. Improve gradually. Jesus multiplied five loaves and two fish—He’s not asking you to start with a buffet.

Build for the People You Have

Ask yourself: Can my team handle this system? If the answer is no, it’s time to simplify. That might mean consolidating gear, switching to user-friendly software, or training your team to master one thing before moving on to the next.

Because at the end of the day, it’s not about showing off your gear—it’s about showing people Jesus. And that should always be the clearest thing in the room.

Need help simplifying your setup or building a plan that grows with your ministry? We do this all day. Let’s talk.

Keep it simple, Saints. Your volunteers—and your mission—will thank you.
